What is FLUX 2 Flex?

FLUX.2 [flex] is the member of Black Forest Labs' FLUX.2 family built for typography. BFL describes it as specialized for text rendering and for preserving small details. It does text to image and editing with references, like FLUX.2 [pro], but puts more effort into letterforms, spacing and fine graphic elements.

Use FLUX 2 Flex when the words are the point of the image: posters, packaging, menus, signs, book covers, social graphics and UI mockups. For photographs where text plays a small role, FLUX 2 Pro is usually the better value.

A poster with a headline and small print

A minimalist navy poster with the headline Night Owls Book Club in a cream serif typeface, a small caps subline reading Every second Thursday, 7 PM, Room 4, and an owl perched on a stack of books

This poster came from one FLUX 2 Flex prompt. We asked for the headline "Night Owls Book Club" in an elegant serif and a small-caps subline, "Every second Thursday · 7 PM · Room 4". The rest of the prompt described an owl on a stack of books and cream text on navy.

Both lines are spelled correctly. The headline has even spacing, and the small caps are crisp, middle dots included. The layout leaves clear space between headline, subline and illustration, which is what makes the poster usable as is.

Product labels and packaging

A glass honey jar with a kraft-paper label reading Wild Honey in hand-lettered script and Raw, Unfiltered, 340 g in small caps, beside a wooden honey dipper on a table

Packaging mockups combine two hard things: a photographed object and lettering that wraps around it. Here FLUX 2 Flex put "Wild Honey" in hand-lettered script on a kraft label and set "Raw · Unfiltered · 340 g" in small caps underneath. The label follows the curve of the jar, and the honey, glass and dipper look like a product photo.

Mockups like this are useful for testing label designs, pitching a brand or making shop images before the real packaging is printed.

Menus, prices and lists

A black café menu board on a brick wall with the title Today's Coffee and four items with prices: Flat White 4.20, Cortado 3.80, Iced Latte 4.50 and Oat Milk +0.50, with coffee bean doodles in the corners

Lists with numbers are a common failure point for image models. For this board we asked for the title "Today's Coffee" and four items with prices in two columns. FLUX 2 Flex rendered every item and price exactly as written, aligned the two columns, and added the coffee bean doodles in the corners.

Keep lists short. Four items rendered cleanly in our test; a full menu with twenty items is a job for a layout tool.

What to make with FLUX 2 Flex

  • Event posters and flyers with a title, date and venue.
  • Packaging and label mockups for jars, bottles, boxes and bags.
  • Menu boards and price lists for cafés, bars and market stalls.
  • Book and album covers with a title and author line.
  • Social graphics and thumbnails where a short headline carries the message.
  • Signage concepts for shopfronts, wayfinding and trade-show booths.

In each case, FLUX 2 Flex gives you a finished-looking draft fast. Final print files with exact fonts and bleed still belong in a design tool, but the concept, the mood and the client preview can come straight from FLUX.2 [flex].

If text is more than a word or two, or it has to be set in a particular style, use FLUX 2 Flex. For everything else in the FLUX.2 family, start with [pro], and see FLUX 2 Max for the most detailed photos.

How to write text prompts for FLUX 2 Flex

  1. Put every word in quotes, exactly as it should appear, with the capitalization you want.
  2. Name the typeface style: "elegant serif", "condensed sans-serif", "hand-lettered script", "small caps".
  3. Say where each piece of text goes: headline at the top, subline under it, price aligned right.
  4. Give colors for text and background, as names or hex codes such as #F5E6C8.
  5. Keep it short. One headline, one subline and a few list items render more reliably than long paragraphs.

Editing text in an existing design

FLUX 2 Flex also edits. Upload a design and ask it to change the wording ("replace 'Thursday' with 'Friday'"), translate a headline or restyle the typeface, with everything else kept the same. You can add up to 8 references, such as a logo you own or a color swatch, and say what each one is for.

For a single quick word swap on a photo, FLUX.1 Kontext is a simpler option; for layouts with many elements and 4K output, try FLUX 3 Image.

Is FLUX 2 Flex good at text?

Yes. Black Forest Labs built FLUX.2 [flex] for typography and text rendering. In our tests it spelled a poster headline, a jar label and a four-item price list correctly on the first try.

What does "flex" mean in FLUX.2 [flex]?

Black Forest Labs groups [flex] as the FLUX.2 model for fine-grained control. Its API exposes settings such as the number of steps and guidance strength. flux-3image runs it with the default settings, so you only write the prompt.

Can FLUX 2 Flex create logos?

It can draft logo ideas and wordmarks, but the output is a raster image, not a vector file. Don't recreate other companies' logos or trademarks.

Does FLUX 2 Flex support other languages?

Black Forest Labs documents multi-language prompting for FLUX.2. So far we have only tested English text on flux-3image, so check spelling carefully in other languages and scripts.

Is FLUX 2 Flex free?

No. Each FLUX 2 Flex image costs credits, 5 at 1K, because every request is a paid call to Black Forest Labs' model through the fal API. Accounts created with Google sign-in get a few free credits to try the site.
